WhatsApp Will Soon Enable Calling Someone Without an Account

The company wants to make it much easier for people without WhatsApp accounts to join calls. Non-users will soon be able to hop into voice or video conversations through a simple shared link. They will not need to download the app, create an account, or verify a phone number. This new feature is being built for WhatsApp Web and will work in a regular desktop browser.

It follows the same idea as the guest chat feature WhatsApp already started rolling out earlier this year, which lets people text non-users via a link. Now the platform is expanding that approach to calls. Users who have WhatsApp will be able to generate a special call link and share it through any channel they like. The person who receives the link can just open it in their browser and join the conversation right away.

Privacy and security measures

To keep things private, WhatsApp plans to use temporary session identifiers created by the browser. These help build the encryption keys so the calls stay fully end-to-end encrypted without collecting any permanent user details.

There are also clear controls for safety. Guests cannot automatically join just because they have the link. The host must manually approve every person who tries to enter. Hosts can also remove any guest at any time or end the entire call if needed.
