CHITRAL: The purchasing power of people in Chitral has fallen to one of its lowest levels in many years, as rising fuel prices continue to push up the cost of everyday goods and services.
Prices of food and other essential commodities have increased sharply, with high transportation costs often cited as the main reason. The rising cost of living has forced many families to cut down on non-essential spending.
Restaurants that were once busy, particularly during evenings and weekends, are now often seen with few customers. Popular picnic and recreational spots also remain largely deserted.
Many Chitralis are reportedly avoiding unnecessary trips to the down-country areas because of the high cost of travel. People say they are being forced to save money even on routine social and recreational activities.
