Fresh ‘Petrol Bomb’ Attack on The People
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has sharply increased petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices for September 8, placing additional pressure on consumers and businesses. Petrol has risen by Rs12.90 to Rs358.77 per litre, while HSD has increased by Rs3.72 to Rs381.77 per litre.
The latest adjustment comes only days after petrol prices were reduced by Rs3.13 per litre, while HSD prices were raised by Rs3.74 per litre for the period from September 5 to 7. The frequent changes have created uncertainty for transporters, industries and households that depend heavily on petroleum products.
The government introduced a daily fuel-pricing system in July, replacing the previous weekly review. The new mechanism was adopted amid increased volatility in global oil markets, particularly because of tensions between the United States and Iran and the wider conflict in the Middle East.
Pakistan remains highly vulnerable to international oil price movements because it imports most of its petroleum requirements. Rising global prices increase the country’s import bill, place pressure on foreign exchange reserves and contribute to inflation.
Global oil prices have recently climbed sharply because of fears that the worsening Middle East conflict could disrupt supplies. Brent crude reached $98.06 a barrel on Monday, its highest level since July 24, before easing slightly. .. CN report, 08 Sep 2026
