Administration draws flak for flouting sec 144 in organizing Afridi charity show
CHITRAL: Social and political circles have criticized the district and divisional administration for violating their own imposed section 144 in the district. Prominent Cricket star turned philanthropist Shahid? Khan Afridi had been invited to Chitral by the government to give away charity flour bags? on behalf of the ‘Shahid Khan Afridi foundation’ in a large gathering at the main parade ground in Chitral town. The divisional commissioner, deputy commissioner police and some military officers were also present on the occasion. Afridi, a very popular star with cricket loving youth spoke on the ‘occasion’ and expressed his love for Chitral. The divisional and district commissioners also spoke on the occasion stressing the need for social distancing, ironically.
The philanthropic intention of the cricket star was appreciated by all and sundry but the methodology certainly not. As the biblical saying goes “The path to hell is paved with good intentions”, the breach of lockdown and social distancing could spell trouble for the people far more than the benefit of the bags of flour. Why don’t our governors, elite,? philanthropists and those who are giving? i these times realise that our religion professes ‘charity be given by one hand without the other hand even knowing’. ..
