Pakistan’s Northern Areas Named Among Top Offbeat Travel Destinations

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s northern areas have been listed among the world’s best under-the-radar travel destinations for 2020 by Forbes magazine.

In its “10 Best-Under-The-Radar Trips” list, Forbes described northern Pakistan as an ideal destination for adventure lovers, highlighting places such as Chitral, Kalash Valley and Hunza.

The magazine also cited the 2019 visit of British royals Prince William and Kate Middleton as a boost to Pakistan’s tourism image.

According to the founder of adventure travel company Wild Frontiers, Pakistan offers spectacular mountains, ancient civilisations, historic cities and excellent opportunities for trekking, mountain biking, rafting and cultural tourism.

The report also noted improvements in roads, tunnels and hotels in the northern areas, making travel easier for tourists.

Forbes was among several international publications, including Condé Nast Traveler and the British Backpacker Society, to recommend Pakistan as a leading travel destination.

The recognition came as the government was making efforts to promote Pakistan’s softer image and revive tourism, including the restoration of religious and cultural sites and the opening of the Kartarpur Corridor for Sikh pilgrims from India. .. CN report, 07 Sep 2026
