CHITRAL: As per the instructions of the Provincial Govt, the Municipal Committee Chitral lower in coordination with the District Administration has started preparation to launch a program to manage the ever increasing population of stray dogs in the populated areas and check the avoidable nuisance caused by this phenomenon.
Stray dogs have always been a part of the city’s populated areas like bazars and markets but the treatment meted out to them by the people and the administration has always been cruel and pathetic. In a society where casually kicking a passing by stray dog is normal and children pelting stones at such dogs which are in many cases injured or maimed and then deriving pleasure out of it has lived as a scar on the face of the society. Where in foreign countries (Turkey being an example among Muslim countries) stray dogs are treated with kindness, in Pakistan these innocent creatures of Allah are treated most unkindly.
The program launched by the govt titled as ‘TNVR’ (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Release) is a well meant and well thought about program. Earlier the only action the municipal authorities would take was to either shoot the dogs point blank or poison them to slow death, both unthinkable in a civilised society.
It is hoped that this noble project of the govt is carried out honestly and with conviction and does not end like the earlier pseudo projects of ‘Langar Khana’ and ‘Shelter home’ etc. .. CN report, 03 Aug 2025

It’s been my long standing dream to do something like this, but didn’t know how to go about it. Now that the govt has graciously started it, hope they stand by it. Will definitely contribute my bit towards this noble effort.
Indeed, both the government’s program for stray dogs and your editorial on the subject are commendable. It reflects a mark of civility, and we hope all concerned departments will work wholeheartedly to ensure its success.
