Pollutants destroying aquatic life in Chitral river

Dear Sir,
According to a well-placed source, fish are found dead in the river Chitral??in a large number these days.??Those who go fishing say that peculiar spots are glaringly visible on the skin of the dead fish.??They further added that they have found remains of chemicals and emptied bottles of medicines near the river bed, which might have been dumped into the river causing the death of precious marine life.

The River Chitral emanates from Chiantar glacier in the Baroghal valley and passes through numerous hamlets during the course of its journey before entering Afghanistan.??The residents who live in close proximity to the river dump their wastes into it putting the marine life in great jeopardy. Last year, some health workers and Hospital staff were also found red-handed throwing hospital waste into the river.

?It?s obvious from the recent incidence of the death of fish in the river Chitral that the contamination of the river goes on unabated. It is imperative to mention here that the aquatic animals are a source of rich food for the consumers. The increasing pollutants will make them unsafe for human consumption.??The District Administration must take serious action against those who are contaminating the river Chitral with impunity. .. 1. Being so used to reading criticism on politicians, for a moment I thought the title read “Politicians destroying aquatic life in Chitral river” 😉

  2. Thank you editor and very well said by professor Khalid…I think the most neglected river on the planet is river Chitral….The true contamination starts from Booni where all the chicken vendors throw all dead chickens and other garbage related to wastes into river Yarkhun…Many people dwelling near Booni goal have directed their wash room effluents into Booni goal thus secondarily into river Yarkhun..In Chitral many hotel washrooms in the vicinity of Chewe bridge are directly draining into Chitral river and the whole denin colony have directed thier wash rooms and kitchen dirt water to Chitral river..in Garam Chashma the butchers have left no stone upturned while directing each and every dirt to G Chashma river…The rivers are the most precious and critically important life line for all living system on the planet earth….every body is responsible to take care of these life sustaining natural resources..and our request to District administration and other environmental activists in Chitral and AKAH team from AkDN to work on this important agenda…for the best interest of quality of life of mankind and other echo system around us…

  3. Pathetic state of our collective consciousness leads to the degradation of both terrestrial and aquatic bio diversity. Our understanding of ecosystem and its importance for sustainiblity of life on earth is worth consideration.

  4. Thank you Hamza sb , Mustafa sb and prof Khalid…can we come forward and sit together and donate few minutes daily to work and suggest how we can protect our life line the Chitral river.Among the precious natural resource the river has a towering importance literally.

  5. Dr. Karim Sab, I think your proposition that we should sit together and invest few minutes to devise a long term strategy for the protection of this vital natural resource from contamination is worth appreciating. We second your idea and urge you to play a leading role by bringing on board the NGO sector. The irony is that the educated elite of our society is not playing a proactive to promote volunteerism and to sensitize the illiterate lot about the significance of natural habitat and bio diversity for the survival of human life on earth. You are a prominent social figure and a thorough professional in health care sector hence can motivate people in much better way. Chitralis are sensible people. Once they realize the gravity of this matter there no reason they will hold themselves back from the noble cause of the preservation of the ecosystem.
