Chitral : In times when there is a mad rush and a rat race everywhere and nobody has time to look for genuinity in things, it becomes all the more important to point out that we have some jewels in Chitral who have so far been overlooked. Now they deserve due recognition by the government. Shahzada Dr Sardar Ul Mulk is one such personality who has given so much of his life to the sick and needy people but has never advertised his services.
Born in 1935 Dr Sardar graduated from King Edwards Medical College Lahore as the first MBBS doctor of Chitral. Upon his appointment as medical officer in Chitral hospital he also had the distinction of being the first government civil servant from Chitral. Dr Sardar Ul Mulk has served as the first and lone medical officer in Chitral for five years in the the 60s during which he relentlessly worked for the pitiable poor and sick people with profound affection and kindness. The trust of the people in him was to such an extent that people would not hesitate to get childbirth delivery process of their women folk carried out by him, and he fully lived up to the nobility of his profession and his personality.
In his 20 years of service in Chitral he worked for eradication of goiter and leprosy which are no more to be seen now.? His research paper on the subject was published in the journal of the Royal College of Physicians.
Dr Sardar ul Mulk retired as Director General Health NWFP in 1995. Even after his retirement he fervently took up volunteer service in the tribal belt with Afghanistan towards eradication of Polio. It is because of such honest and noble doctors like Dr Sardar that medical profession enjoys respect in the eyes of the people.
Dr Sardar Ul Mulk? is now an octogenarian but never boasts or brags about his services to the country. It is upon the patriot people in authority to identify such valuable souls and duly reward them.
The Chitral authorities should initiate a case for a national award for his exceptional and outstanding services and the political leaders should support it. There cannot be a more deserving case to receive a national award based on his service to humanity, dedication and performance. .. CN report, 01 Feb 2018

Dr Sardar?s honesty and his fair treatment of everyone equally are the hallmarks of his character.
He even managed to house and train three Kalash ladies as midwives, who then went back to their communities and performed their medical duties with due diligence.
This is just one example of how his desire for service had no boundaries
No doubt Dr Dardar Ul Mulk’s services to chitral are invaluable. He himself chose his first posting to chitral after completion of his medical education when no one was willing to be posted in Chitral which was an extremely backward place at that time. Being a Scion of the royal family, he could have chosen a much better place any where in the country for his posting but the love for the soil compelled him to seek posting on his own soil. I vividly remember being a chief guest in one of his campaigns against goiter in a remote village of Lotkuh in early nineties.
He took upon himself the mission of eradication of goiter from Chitral which was common in almost every village of the district and he succeeded in his mission with his sincerity and dedication and now it is no where to be seen in Chitral.
Despite rendering valuable services, he never propagated them. He served us in real sense of the word “service” and we salute him. We must request the government to confer upon him due award in recognition of the valuable services rendered by this noble person.
