In separate notifications issued here on Wednesday, Lower Chitral deputy commissioner Mohsin Iqbal and Upper Chitral DC Haseebur Rehman Khalil said it had become imperative to take necessary measures to ensure protection and conservation of the migratory birds during their course of flight over Chitral to the country’s plains.
They said the ban imposed under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code would remain in force for a period of 90 days.
Meanwhile, divisional forest officer wildlife, Chitral, Farooq Nabi told Dawn that waterfowls from Siberia started migrating to the country’s south with the advent of winter season using the Indus flyway zone passing over Chitral after entering from the Broghil valley, which is the starting point of the flyway.
He said that to save different species of waterfowls, the wildlife department had decided to take stringent measures to discourage poaching and overhunting of the migratory birds, which were gullible in nature and fell prey to whims of the ruthless hunters.
Mr Habi said that the wildlife department had framed standard operating procedures to regulate the hunting season, and use of automatic and semi-automatic guns was strictly prohibited. .. Source

“Hunting is a sickness, a perversion and a danger and should be recognized as such. People who get their amusement from hunting and killing defenseless animals can only be suffering from a mental disorder”– Sir Roger Moore
After all, these migrating ducks are also God’s creatures – harmless and beautiful. They owe us nothing. If we cannot feed them or protect them, at least let them live their lives- that is the least we can do as normal human beings.
I am a reformed hunter and deeply regret killing wild birds ,ducks and geese mate for life and that is why if you shoot one of a pair the mate will often come down to help the fallen in the process often getting killed too
This is a commendable legal action by the administrations of both Lower and Upper Chitral districts. While it should have been implemented much earlier, it’s reassuring to see that the local authorities have finally recognized the gravity of the situation, particularly the cruel massacre of innocent migratory birds through deceptive methods such as electronic mimicry. Well done to the district administrations—keep up the great work!
Those who hunt ducks and other birds and animals should imagine if Allah had created you as these ducks and the ducks were created in your place, would you have liked to be hunted down as you do to these poor defenseless creatures now.
