CHITRAL: Human beings are frail and fragile inherently, no matter what we may boast about our achievements. This frailty has been exploited by con artists since the beginning of recorded history. Earlier it would be through pretty deities and ugly demons and the system gradually progressed and became more sophisticated. In Chitral we have seen pir faqeers who, became famous for performing miracles and curing diseases through ganda taweez etc, though none could sustain their sudden rise to popularity for long. Even in ultra educated societies like Japan cults have sprung in the past where in one case dozens of people followed their leader to death by cutting their own veins thus ‘experiencing transcendence to eternal bliss”.
With the internet revolution and associated digital facilities the exploitation of human fragility and frailty has taken a new boost. Online shopping offers which have proliferated the social media specter are promoted so intuitively that a person despite having doubts about it’s veracity, readily falls for it only to find the bitter truth in most cases. Recently a number of online investment schemes have fooled the people of Chitral and gullible persons who fell for these schemes are now regretting with a finger on their lips.
It is the duty of parents, teachers, religious preachers, et all to educate those under their influence about the dangers of falling into booby traps. .. CN report, 27 Dec 2024

Some years back a similar fraudulent scheme by the name of ‘Biznas’ became popular in Chitral. I tried to investigate about the scheme and wanted to visit their office in Peshawar or Islamabad but was not facilitated to do so by the managers by dilly dallying and making excuses. CN warned the gullible investors about veracity of the scheme but it fell on deaf ears. Result was that when the scheme vanished in thin air one fine morning, the investors were left with nothing but regret. The lesson is, when anything seems too good to be true it should be taken with a pinch of salt. Also see https://chitralnews.com/chitralis-easy-prey-for-con-men/
