Peace over Progress: The world needs to be clear in its priorities

CHITRAL: Today’s world is something phenomenally different from what it has been since the beginning of history. In the last four decades exponential progress in technology and inter-connectivity has totally transformed the globe in many respects. However, despite all the progress, what has terribly lagged behind is the respect of established human values.

Despite the leaps and bounds in technological development, essential human element of societal progress has been the looser. Innovations in AI, biotechnology, and renewable energy though holding  immense potential,  is not accompanied by a commitment to resolving conflicts. For instance, access to technology has widened the gap between developed and developing nations, fueling resentment and tension.

By focusing on conflict resolution as a foundational principle, we can ensure that technological advancements serves to unite rather than divide. Conflicts arise not merely from scarcity of resources but also from misunderstandings, cultural differences and historical grievances. Without a robust framework for resolving these conflicts, societies risk descending into violence and instability and many are already in it.

We have developed sophisticated systems of reasoning, data analysis and diplomacy, yet conflicts, whether personal, national, or global, continue to arise, often fueled by emotions, historical grievances, and differing ideologies. It’s very clear that the human capacity for empathy and understanding lags behind our intellectual achievements.

Burning need of the time is that the intelligentsia of the world put their heads together and give a solution to humankind to honour humanity and human being above anything else there is. .. CN report, 05 Jan 2025

  1. What is the use of all the material progress when human lives are worth nothing in Gaza and Iraq and Syria and anywhere where there is avoidable conflict going on. Why can’t people who are incharge of these massacres get together and find peaceful solutions instead of virtually behaving like beasts.
