If animal sacrifice not possible Muslims can donate money to poor on Eid ul Azha, says seminary

Hyderabad — Muslims, who can’t sacrifice sheep or cattle on Eid-ul-Azha this time due to the Covid-19 situation, can donate the equivalent amount to the poor, according to a decree issued by a leading Islamic seminary in Hyderabad.

With less than four weeks to go for the festival of sacrifice and Covid-19 cases continuing to rise in Telangana, especially in Hyderabad, Jamia Nizamia issued a ‘fatwa’ or decree that if animal can’t be sacrificed due to the pandemic situation, the amount equivalent to the cost of the animal can be donated to poor relatives, the destitute or madarsas.

“No deed is dearer to the Almighty Allah than sacrifice between 10th and 12th Zul Hijjah. Keeping this in view, every person who has the means should make every effort to do the sacrifice. If it is not possible to do sacrifice by 12th Zul Hijjah, the amount equivalent to the cost of the animal or share (in the cattle) can be donated to poor relatives, destitute or those seeking Islamic education,” reads the ‘fatwa’ issued by Jamia’s chief mufti, Maulana Mufti Mohammad Azeemuddin. .. read from Source

  1. The ritual of sacrificing an animal on Eidul Azha has a tale and a spirit behind it. Allah Almighty demanded the sacrifice of prophet Ibrahim’s (AS) dearest possession (his son) to which the prophet obliged and obediently put his son under the knife ready to be slain, but Allah Almighty accepted his intentions and replaced his son Ismaeel (AS) with a sheep which was slaughtered. We now only remember slaughtering of the sheep. The spirit of sacrificing one’s most prized possession in the name of Allah is long forgotten. Let alone sacrificing son, if a muslim is told to sacrifice only his lust for ill-gotten (haraam) money for the sake of Allah, almost everyone will fail. The easiest thing we like to get over with the ritual of qurbani is to drag a goat from the animal market and butcher it, without even knowing it’s essence, but pray that is not what the message of “Qurbani” was intended to be.. Allah Almighty has given us the sense to think, to differentiate between the wheat and the Chaff. We must apply our God gifted intelligence and senses.
