Chitral--, A gang of swindlers from Khyber Agency duped Chitral
police and enjoyed transport and lodging facilities in the tourist
resorts of Garam Chashma and Bumburate and one of the gang members
introduced himself as Aimal Wali Khan, the son of ANP chief
Asfandiar Wali Khan.
Station house officer of Chitral police station, inspector Zafar
Ahmed told this scribe that one Nowshad Ali of Landi Kotal
impersonated himself as Aimal Wali Khan and asked for facilities
from the local police which were accorded due to his family status.
The gang consisting of nine members including two Chitrali-based
Afghanis while a head constable of Chitral police also abetted them.
The gang promised employment to the people of Garam Chashma during
their stay in the Governor Rest House there who had thronged there
on hearing the news of the arrival of Asfandiar’s son, the SHO said.
The swindler promised to employ the locals in the Chitral campus of
Abdul Wali Khan University while he also assured the locals that he
will persuade his cousin Amir Haider Khan Hoti, the chief minister,
to allocate sufficient funds for the widening and blacktopping of
Garam Chashma Road which was in dilapidated condition, he said.
He added that the gang dashed to the Kalash valley Bumburate from
Garam Chashma where they committed such follies which rendered them
suspicious and the DPO Abdur Rashid Khan approached the chief
minister secretariat to be told that Aimal Wali Khan was not present
even in the country.
The DPO rushed to the Bumburate valley early in the Monday morning
and nabbed all the gang members including Nowshad Ali, Amin Jan,
Noorullah, Ajir Khan, Haya Noor and Sharafat Khan of Landi Kotal.
The arrested persons also included official of Chitral police Wazir
Ali Shah and two Afghan refugees Mian Mukhtar and Aga Jan..
