Protest planned against power outages: Residents of Chitral town plan to protest against avoidable power outages in the city. At a meeting presided over by Hayatullah Khan, participants vowed to launch full fledged protest against unbearable load shedding on 28 July .--CN report, 25 July 2012.

Chitrali awarded: Fazlur-Rehman S/O Sardar Qabool of Mastuj, student of Hajvery University Gulberg Lahore Department of Visual Arts (Media Studies) is to be awarded on the basis of his academic performance, active participation as media head responsible for dealing with all TV channels and print media. Swiss Ambassador visits  Yarkhun: Swiss Ambassador HE Christofer Bubb visited the construction site of the Power Hydro Power Project accompanied by his spous Mrs. Regulae Bubb. SDC Country Director Mr.Indre.Deputy Director Miss.Sara and G. Manager AKRSP accompanied the honorable guest. A large number of community representatives and notable of the area were present in this occasion. Shandur Polo festival Update: Ghizer beat Laspur 9-1 in the opening match of the Shandur Polo Festival. Meanwhile rumours are rife that President Zardari might attend the final day match on 9 July and declare Mastuj as a new district. DCO goes to court against CAA notice: DCO Chitral has gone to court against a notice issued by the Civil Aviation Authority forbidding him to construct a house in the CAA restricted area around the airport. One commits suicide in Booni: One Abdul Hafeez of Kushum running a Hotel in Booni jumped into the river at Charun bridge. Cause of the suicide as reported by relatives is depression suffered by the deceased for the last four years -- AM Khan Booni, 18 June 2012.

Four young men die within two days: Four young men all in their late twenties early thirties died within a span of forty eight hours. Those who passed away include Shahzada Rrizwanuddin son of Major Shahzada Shamsuddin of Broze, Shoaib Ahmad son of Zhano Khan of Zargarandeh, Jahangir son of Kamaluddin of Mustajapadeh and Ahmad Salahuddin son of Abdul Jalil of  chew Dok and  The cause of death in respective cases was  cardiac arrest, cancer in second case, Kidney failure in third case and motorbyke accident of the last respectively.-- CN report, 17 June 2012.

JI makes short work of Circus: A circus team which had arrived from Punjab with bag and baggage had to pack up post-haste only one day after it started performing at the Denin shotar in Chitral town. CIADP misappropriating funds: Residents of Lone Gohkir have alleged that the heavily funded CIADP (Chitral Integrated Area Development Project) has misappropriated funds meant for development of their area. Addressing a press conference in Chitral representatives of the area including Muhammad Ali, Azizur Rehman, Amir Muhammad, said there should be a check on the corruption in this NGO otherwise public money will go in few people's pockets. -- CN report, 25 May 2012..

AKESP teachers threaten strike: AKESP recently appointed and subsequently terminated 19 teachers due to not participating in baseline test. These teachers have decided to sit in a hunger strike in Booni from Monday, until their demands are met.-- CN report, 19 May 2012.

Good harvest of Rhubarb and Heengplant seen: This year Chitral mountains have had a rich harvest of Rhubarb (Ishpar) and Heeng plants (Rao). Same can be seen aplenty in the Bazaars. Rao specially has much medicinal properties and soaked in Vinegar makes a tasty and energising pickle used in Chitral since long. Dissatisfaction over Torkhow road construction: Torkhow road, which is being constructed with 53 crore rupees is not progressing well, said PPP leader Saeed Khan Lal, in a press statement. CS soldier released by Taliban: Sepoy Tariq Jalal of Chitral Scouts who was abducted by Taliban after their attack on scout post on 11 August 2011, has been released by his captors, it was known here. Further details about the mechanism of release are yet to be known.-- GH Farooqi, 27 April 2012.

First time ever, woman kills woman in Chitral: In a unique unfortunate incident, a woman residing in Denin village of Chitral town callously axed to death her sister in law (husband's brother's wife) along with her four year son. The woman has been arrested and confessed to her crime. The reason for the murder is yet to be ascertained. -- CN report, 17 April 2012.

GH Inqilabi re-elected DBA president: Ghulam Hazrat Inqilabi Advocate was elected for the second term as President District Bar association Chitral. He bagged 43 votes against his rival Khurshid Mughal Advocate who got 29 votes. Other Advocates elected to office include, General Secretary Raza Ali, Senior Vice President MI Khan Sarhadi, Finance Secretary Nizam Mustafa and Library Secretary Alamzeb.-- CN report, 16 April 2012

PML(Q) MPA may join PPP: Rumour has it that PML(Q) MPA from upper Chitral Haji Ghulam Muhammad may join PPP after dissolution of the assemblies. A party insider disclosed this to CN. However the MPA could not be contacted for confirmation or rebuttal of the rumour-- CN report 02 Apr 2012.

CSWO condemns murder of student: Chitral student welfare organization (CSWO) Islamabad arranged Quran Khwani at Islamic university Islamabad for the soul of slain student Zahid Hussain under the supervision of Azhar Khaliq President CSWO Islamabad. PTCL joins WAPDA in denying service: PTCL is fast joining the category of WAPDA in blatantly cutting off service to the consumers despite levying heavy bills. High Court moves against Food dept recruitments: Peshawar High Court has issued a stay order against recruitments of junior clerk in the Food department. The petition was filed by one Asad ur Rehman alleging irregularities in recruitment of junior clerks in the department. -- CN report, 17 Mar 2012.

Spring is behind by three weeks: The current year sees spring season in Chitral delayed by at least two to three weeks as judged by the persisting cold, blossoming of the Almond trees which are a harbinger of early spring season in Chitral.-- CN report, 15 Mar 2012.

Delay in construction of bazaar byepass road flayed: Residents of Chitral town have strongly protested against the inordinate delay in construction of the bazaar byepass road. Residents speaking to CN said that land for the byepass road has been acquired one and half year back but no further progress has been made on the construction of it . Traffic jams in the old bazaar are an everyday affair and cause of much nuisance.-- CN report, 11 Mar 2012

Major Langlands undergoes operation: Major GD Langlands has undergone a prostate operation in a hospital in Lahore and is now recuperating in Chitral. The 95 year old confirmed  bachelor and confirmed educationist who has the Langlands school and college Chitral named after him, was upbeat about his school. Talking to CN, he said, a British lady principal is expected to come and take over in October. Musharraf advised against contesting from Chitral : Prominent Social and political worker from Drosh Haji Muhammad Shifa has advised  General Pervez Musharraf not to contest elections from Chitral as it would adversely effect the peaceful situation here. He said Musharraf had no doubt done great service by re-initiating the Lowari tunnel project but he should refrain from cashing on it.. Suicide, Death cases: A Chitrali laborer working in Gilgit namely committed suicide by hanging himself in an under construction building.  A young man Sher Ali s/o Gul Mat Khan, r/o Begusht was electrocuted in Iran where he was working in a medical clinic. Many announce to contest elections: Months before the announcement of general elections, a number of individuals have already announced through the press their intentions to contest. Ex president PPP Zainul Abeddin some time back announced contesting for both the NA and PA seats. Similarly Abu Lais Ramdasi of PPP also announced his candidature for the NA. Now Irshad Mukkarar of PPP(Sherpao) has announced contest for PA seat. Jeep accident claims three lives at Istaru Torkhow: Three persons lost their lives when the jeep carrying them skidded off the road and fell hundreds of feet down into the river at Istaru. Student's distinction: Musa Rahim Khan S/o Sher Rahim Khan Student of FSc.II, Aga Khan Higher Secondary School Chitral (Seen Lasht), stood Ist In all Pakistan Intel Science and technology Fair, for his scientific project (water and heat Detector) He belong’s to a remote area of ChitraI Buzund, Torkhow. He was awarded certificates by , National Institute of Electronics ,Pakistan Council in Research in Water Resources, Grand Winning Certificate, Medal, Best Category Certificates and cash price amounting to 25000 by Intel ISEF (International Science and engineering ). Allama IqbaI University pledged to provide 50,000 rupees as assistance for further research in the above mentioned project. Subedar Mehboob Alam ill: 94 year old subedar Mehboob Alam, a cultural icon of Chitral, has suffered cardiac stroke and is admitted to the Chitral Scouts hospital. His family has appealed to his well wishers to pray for his health.-- CN report, 20 Jan 2012

Chitral weather turns biting cold: End December and beginning January are the coldest months in Chitral. This year due to no snowfall thus far, the chill has become piercing and people have started praying for snowfall, to water the streams and moisten the soil. DSL service goes off every second day: DSL broadband service by PTCL which was supposed to be a blessing and indeed is, in this age of high speed technology, is not functioning well and goes out of service frequently causing nuisance and problems for users.-- CN report, 15 Dec 2011.

Chief Minister to visit Chitral: Chief Minister KP Haider Khan Hoti is scheduled to arrive in Chitral on a visit on 12 Dec. He will inaugurate the campus of Abdul Wali Khan University at Seen Lasht besides other activities. -- CN report 12 Dec 2011.

Water Governance Training Held by KLSO Mulkhow: Training workshop on water governance for water management committees of Union Council Mulkhow was held at KLSO Office Warijun. The  workshop was jointly organized by International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD),Aga Khan Rural Support Organization (AKRSP) and Khow Local Support Organization (KLSO). 54 participants 17 female and 37 male participated who shared the local knowledge regarding water issues and suggested remedial measures to overcome water deficiency especially in summers. A local water management committee was formed where representation to various settlements of UC Mulkhow has been given. Seized timber auctioned: 25 lots consisting of 9312 cubic feet timber was auctioned @ 1420 per foot by forest department at Drosh. The auction was completely transparent and carried out  under supervision of Sub Divisional Forest Officer Fazal Khaliq. -- GH Farooqi, 05 Dec 2011

NBP building to be demolished for byepass road: The executing authorities of the Chitral bazaar byepass road have taken an appropriate step in deciding to demolish the National Bank building at the Ataliq chowk, in order to straighten the byepass road. Earlier the authorities were trying to circumvent the bank building thus unnecessary lengthening and uglifying the alignment of the road, but on public demand to sacrifice government buildings also along with private buildings, the authorities have finally decided to demolish the building and straighten the road. -- CN report, 29 Nov 2011.

Ayun Rumbur squabble ends for the time being: The squabble between the people of Ayun and Rumbur valley over ownership and cutting of forests ended when some politicians deputed by the DCO visited the area and assured the people to look into the matter and come to some understanding by 14 Nov.
